Destructive Testing Overview
Destructive testing, often referred to as burst testing or collapse testing is carried out to test a specimen’s performance or material behaviour, when subjected to different levels of pressure. It is used as part of the design and qualification process, to determine the point at which the product fails under pressure. This is used to confirm that the design pressure of the component or assembly has been correctly calculated.
This will assist customers by reducing product failure, preventing accidents and ensuring compliance with regulations.
This is achieved by carrying out either burst testing or hyperbaric collapse/ crush testing.
Hydrostatic Burst Testing Services
Burst testing is a destructive test, which is performed with a liquid, usually water, to determine the pressure overload capacity of components, assemblies and products. The test is often performed as a pre-production test and then periodically to ensure safety, quality and durability.
Hyperbaric Collapse Testing Services
Hyperbaric collapse testing is in effect the opposite of burst testing, where pressure is applied from the outside, until the product is crushed or collapses. The test is often performed as a pre-production test and then periodically, to push a product to its breaking point; ensuring safety, quality, and durability.
